Chamomile is one of the popular herbs in the Traditional Western Herbal Medicine. Dating back to the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks; Chamomile has been used for the treatment of anxiety, insomnia, gastrointestinal disorders, inflammation, various skin conditions, rheumatic pain, hemorrhoids and muscle spasms.
German Chamomile and Roman Chamomile
There are two most common types of Chamomile, German Chamomile (Matricaria Recutita) and Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum Nobile).
Why Chamomile is beneficial for your health?
Chamomile flowers contain Alpha Bisabolol and Bisabolol Oxides, the substances that have anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
Chamomile for The Treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Around 12 million people in the UK and up to 45 million people in the US are affected by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), a common disorder with a wide range of symptoms including cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea or constipation.
Due to the variety of symptoms, managing or controlling this chronic condition can be challenging. There isn't any standard treatment for relieving all IBS symptoms.
In the recent clinical trial involving 45 people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, Blue Chamomile (Matricaria Recutita) has been proven to be effective in reducing the various IBS symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation. If you suffer from IBS, taking blue chamomile extract everyday may help ease the symptoms.
The Cosmetic Uses of Chamomile
Both Blue and Roman Chamomile essential oils are often used in aromatherapy to help calm nerves and anxiety. The flower extract and essential oils of Blue Chamomile (Matricaria Recutita) are particularly useful for the treatment of sensitive skin due to its antioxidant and skin-soothing properties. A double blind study in Germany showed that Chamomile can be used effectively for the treatment of eczema.
Blue Chamomile essential oil is one of the main ingredients in Blue Chamomile & Cacay Facial Oil, a soothing facial oil to lock in moisture, protect skin from dryness and environmental damage. For best results, use it twice a day. Massage a small amount of the oil into clean skin. For dry skin, follow with a moisturiser. Alternatively, mix 1 to 4 drops of this facial oil with a small amount of serum or moisturiser then massage into clean skin.
