Veganism is definitely spreading faster than we thought. The latest survey in 2018 suggests that more than 3.5 million people in the United Kingdom are identifying themselves as vegans and vegetarians. More than double the number in 2016. Yaaayyyy!!!
More young Brits switched to a plant-based diet, especially girls and women age 15 to 34 that accounted more than 40% of the total vegans and vegetarians in the UK.
What motivate people to switch to a plant-based diet?
49% people who are cutting down on meat consumption stating health reason as their main motivator. The rest do it for weight management, animal welfare, environmental impacts, concerns over antibiotic and taste.
About 20% greenhouse emissions are from food. If we all went vegan, it would reduce this number to 10%. Switching to a vegan diet certainly helps create a better world to live in.
How easy is it to be a vegan?
With the growing interest in a plant-based lifestyle, being a vegan in London is easier than you may think of. There are choices of restaurants for tasty vegan foods and good variety of vegan products on supermarket shelves.
I love eating fruits and vegetables. However, there were times when I travelled abroad or attended events in London where vegan foods were not an available option.
If you are new to vegan diet, ask other vegans for help with the variety and choices of foods. If you are in doubt, seek advice from a vegan nutritionist, to make sure that your body is not lacking any particular nutrients by switching to a vegan diet.
The way to a Better and Kinder World
If we look deeper underneath the surface, Veganism is much more than just eating fruits and vegetables like your life is depending on them. Vegan lifestyle is a conscious act that helps preserve the existence and well-being of the world we live in and its ecosystem. Being a vegan is a decision to be kinder and loving towards others, be them human beings or animals.
